The Camp David Agreement

Following the advice of a Brookings Institution report, Carter decided to replace the incremental bilateral peace talks that had marked Henry Kissinger`s shuttle diplomacy after the 1973 Yom Kippur War with a comprehensive and multilateral approach. The Yom Kippur War complicated efforts to achieve the goals set out in UN Security Council Resolution 242. More importantly, the United Nations never formally accepted the first agreement of the agreements, the “Framework for Peace in the Middle East,” because it was written without Palestinian representation and participation. Therefore, the 13 days on the occasion of the Camp David agreement were considered a success. Partly because of Carter`s determination to reach an Israeli-Egyptian agreement, a full two-week promise for a single international problem. .
